Unsung Psychotherapy was founded in 2025 by two former English teachers who realized they enjoyed working with people more than they liked working in a system. After collective decades in the classroom, they went back to school, became interns in their middle years, and built a new base of knowledge, which, to be honest, was not far off from the knowledge they built as teachers of literature.
Like literature, mental health services provide a greater understanding of ourselves, the world, and how the two intertwine. Each of us are on our own hero’s journey: going into the unknown, battling monsters, and gaining wisdom from our experiences.
It’s not just the plot that matters; the words we use matter too. Through verbal processing, our brains select words that convey our experiences, leading to a more thorough understanding of our beliefs and related emotions. Sometimes those beliefs highlight that the monster we are battling is internal and that we need to consider revising our internal monologue. The unsung hero’s story often goes unnoticed; clinicians at Unsung Psychotherapy want to change that.
Mission Statement:
Unsung Psychotherapy provides a safe, inclusive environment for individuals to explore the story of their lives. We are committed to nurturing authenticity, peacefulness, and empathy in the individual to support stronger relationships, energize communities, and radiate joy into the world.
At Unsung, every decision we make considers all stakeholders: clinicians, clients, and community. This value is evident through the following:
- Pro bono and sliding scale services. Each clinician holds space in their schedule to provide services at a discounted rate for those in need. Please contact us for more details.
- All of our clinicians are equal and active participants in decision-making. We are compensated based on hours served, not on a hierarchy model.
- We support each other. Clinicians hold weekly consult meetings to offer support and to collaborate.
